20 December 2019

Newsletter No 17. Week commencing Monday 22nd December. Weeks 34 - 35.
(First published Friday 20th Dec)

Welcome to your seventeenth newsletter providing you with information regarding the Hard Ings Road Improvement scheme in Keighley.

Road traffic accident Sunday 15th December

This week has been overshadowed by the event on the evening of Sunday 15th December where a teenager was involved in a collision with a vehicle near the ambulance station.
The Howard and Bradford Council site team would like to express our deep shock and extend our sympathies to all involved.

Progress for the last 2 weeks

We carried out the planned surfacing to the A629 but were unable to switch our traffic management to enable us to commence work in the verge, as planned, due to the events that took place last Sunday.

The Fibreline car park and pedestrian ramps have also been surfaced and great progress made on the fencing and hand rail installation.

YW have continued the water main diversion works, working to install the new main around the corner of Royd Way.

Christmas Shutdown and Traffic Management to A629 temporarily lifted

Friday 20th December is our last working day on site for 2019.
Whilst some personnel will be present intermittently across the 2 week shutdown period, in the office and inspecting the site, we will recommence work in earnest on Monday 6th January.
The works to the A629 have reached a safe point that have enabled us to temporarily lift the traffic management on the A629 and return it to 2 lanes in both directions for the 2 week Christmas period.
The removal of the traffic management is planned for the night of Friday 20th.
Please be mindful that the traffic management, reducing the A629 back down to one lane, will be re-installed on the weekend prior to us returning to work on the 6th January.

Howard Civil Engineering and Bradford Council wish everyone a peaceful and relaxing time over the Christmas period.

We acknowledge that our works have caused a lot of disruption in the local community and for those travelling through, especially during peak periods during the latter months of 2019.
I would personally like to thank you for all your patience and for the positive messages we have received from many of you.
The complex service diversions are nearing their completion. Therefore, in 2020 you will start to see completed areas of work and progress in areas that have seemed stationary for so long.
We wish everyone a peaceful and relaxing time and our thoughts remain with those affected by the accident on Sunday.

Affected bus routes on Lawkholme Lane

The following diversions remain in place by the bus companies previously using the now closed Lawkholme Lane junction.

Hard Ings Road/Lawkholme Lane, Keighley - P23 Steeton Primary

Route P23 for Steeton Village Primary School will have an amended route. There will be no pick up on Lawkholme Lane.
AM: the bus will start at the bus stop on Skipton Road at East Avenue (08:22) then along Skipton Road to Devonshire Street and the usual route thereafter. Therefore the bus will not operate along Lawkholme Lane.
PM: as per the usual route from the school as far as the roundabout at Skipton Road/Hard Ings then continue along Skipton Road (16:10 at East Avenue) toward Devonshire Street and the usual route thereafter.
Those passengers who usually board or alight at the stops at the top of Lawkholme Lane near Hard Ings are advised to use the bus stop on Skipton Road at East Avenue.
This amendment will continue for the duration of the works at Hard Ings or until such time the turn restriction is lifted.
Details of all school bus diversions are also available at https://www.wymetro.com/schools/school-bus-service-changes-and-disruptions/

K17 Keighley Jets Service

The K17 service will have an amended route. It will not use Lawkholme Lane, beyond Bradford Street. It will also not use Royd Way and Royd Ings Avenue for the period of the Lawkholme Lane Closure.
A new stop will be in place near ASDA for the diverted route.
K17 Divert via Bradford Street, Brown Street, Bingley Street (Outbound temporary bus stop near ASDA), Bradford Road A6035 and Alston Road.
