Hard Ings Road Improvement Scheme

Hard Ings Newsletter No 35

11 September 2020

Newsletter No 35. Week commencing Monday 14th September. Weeks 70 - 71. (First published Friday 11th September)

Welcome to newsletter number 35 providing you with information regarding the Hard Ings Road Improvement scheme in Keighley.

Progress, the past 2 weeks

The temporary contraflow traffic management system on Hard Ings Road has now been in place for approximately 10 weeks, and we are continually adapting this system to facilitate our progression of works as we draw closer to completing construction of the central islands.

Please note that we continually monitor and assess traffic management systems in place to ensure the best possible system is in place. We are pleased to say that, at present, the current traffic management system is working well for both road users and our work force.

We are pleased to confirm that works are progressing very well on the southern flank of the scheme with the final surfacing being laid where possible in this area.

Work to construct the central islands has been the focus of operations during the last two weeks. These works include the removal of the existing road surface, the upgrading of the drainage system and the construction of new traffic islands and controlled pedestrian crossing.

The next 2 weeks

The above works are now nearing completion with the final road surfacing planned to take place nightly from Monday 21st September to Sunday 4th October. To achieve this, the existing road surface will be milled down to the required levels which will allow the new final surface course to be installed to the designed profiles. This will then be completed with new road markings and white lines.

As always, these works have been planned with deep consideration for the local community and significant emphasis has been placed on minimising potential disruption. All traffic management plans and required diversions have been applied for and approved with advance advisory signs to be distributed throughout the area early next week.

In addition to this, please be aware that as part of this scheme we will be installing UTC ducting on Bradford Road and Aire Valley Road which will see traffic management measures in place on these routes too. We have now gained the required permissions to put the traffic management measures in place, and is scheduled to be undertaken in the near future.

Extra special return to school for Crossflatts Primary

Howard Civil Engineering were delighted to help ensure nursery and reception pupils at Crossflatts Primary School had a fantastic return to school this September by building new playground equipment using repurposed materials from our sites!

In addition to custom-built water walls and balance beams, Howard Civil Engineering also built a wendy home, a wildlife hotel, and a mud pit for the children to enjoy upon their return to school.

Returning reception pupils were amazed when they saw the new apparatus in the playground last Wednesday. ‘The children are absoloutely loving the new playground equipment,’ said Adele. ‘What a great start to the year!’
