Hard Ings Road Improvement Scheme

Hard Ings Newsletter No 34

27 August 2020

Newsletter No 34. Week commencing Monday 31st August. Weeks 68 - 69. (First published Friday 28th August)

Welcome to newsletter number 34 providing you with information regarding the Hard Ings Road Improvement scheme in Keighley.

Progress, the past 2 weeks

The temporary contraflow traffic management system has now been in place for approximately 8 weeks. This system has recently been amended to facilitate the natural progression of the works, and this has enables us to recommence construction of the central island.

Please note that we continually monitor and assess traffic management systems in place to ensure the best possible system is in place. We are pleased to say that, at present, the current traffic management system is working well for both road users and our work force.

Local residents will be pleased to know that work on the southern flank of the scheme is progressing very well. We have successfully installed drainage, ducting, kerbing, new street lighting, and signage along the stretch of road from Bradford Road roundabout to Beechcliffe Roundabout, meaning only the final surfacing layer to the footpaths remains before this stretch is complete.

On and around Beechcliffe Roundabout, traffic control posts and illuminated signal heads are now set in place with commissioning operations ongoing.

The next 2 weeks

Operations to construct the central islands have now recommenced and will be the focus of operations during the next period. These works include the removal of the existing road surface, upgrading of the drainage system and construction of the new traffic islands and controlled pedestrian crossing.

Works will continue to progress from Beechcliffe Roundabout along to and opposite the entrance to Back Caledonia Road. Please note these works will require amendments to the current traffic management system as works progress to enable us to maintain a safe working area for operatives and a clear safe route through the works for both pedestrians and traffic. We will achieve this by closing the two central overtaking lanes (to create a central working area) and opening the two kerbside lanes to traffic, with pedestrian crossing points situated in locations which best suit the requirements of local residents and business alike.

In addition to this, please be aware that as part of this scheme we will be installing UTC ducting on Bradford Road and Aire Valley Road which will see traffic management measures in place on these routes too. We have now gained the required permissions to put the traffic management measures in place, and is scheduled to be undertaken in the near future.

Affected bus routes on Lawkholme Lane

The following diversions remain in place by the bus companies previously using the now closed Lawkholme Lane junction.
