The highly contentious project to demolish the Futurist theatre and adjoining buildings in Scarborough South Bay and carry out associated slope stabilisation works is underway.

Main Contractor, Willmott Dixon, is undertaking the project on behalf of Scarborough Borough Council.

Howard Civil Engineering have carried out an enabling package making alterations to the seafront highway to provide safe access and agress areas to the theatre for the main demolition works.

The stability of the cliff behind the Futurist is the number one priority for the council and Willmott Dixon. The demolition plan that has been adopted has been created following expert analysis of the risks in great detail and establishing methods to mitigate them.

Our next package of work is carrying out slope stability works inside the theatre, installing concrete ballast against the rear internal walls.

Following this a demolition subcontractor will take down the building in a controlled phased manner.
