Role Overview
Nominal
- Preparation of month end journals including accruals and prepayments
- Maintain fixed asset register (acquisitions, disposals and depreciation processing)
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Review of Profit and Loss items
- Production of accounts to trial balance, ensuring correct overhead allocation per cost centre and to budget
Cash Book
- Cash book processing and bank reconciliation.
Purchase Ledger
- Production of multi-site contract costs, to timetable
- Importing of supplier transactions (HPH invoice to group companies)
- Importing purchase orders (HPH)
- Ensuring correct cost allocation and accuracy of information provided. Including invoice, credit notes, job journals, accruals (both P/L and subcontract), cleansing PO’s & GRN’s
- Overseeing purchase ledger function, ensuring compliance to invoice processing and raising queries and subsequent resolution
- Ensure accurate allocation of payments and resolve any debit balances
- Ensuring accuracy of statement reconciliation
Subcontractors
- Creating and approving subcontract applications and payments (HCE)
Supplier Relations
- Provide support/cover for the team in relation to:
- Point of contact for supply chain
- Providing remittances
- Contact regarding payments
- Liaising with supply chain partners via telephone, email and post
Role Requirements
- Professional Qualification such as ACA or CIMA
- Demonstrated experience in an accounts or financial role
- Experience of Management Accounts with duties such as Balance Sheet Reconciliations, Prepayments, Accruals, Journal Postings, Fixed Assets, Stock, Variance Analysis etc.
- Any knowledge of Cash Flow, Budgeting, Forecasting, Variance Analysis, Sales or Product Analysis is desirable.
- Confident and skilled with Excel to an advanced level

- £32,000 – 34,000 per annum (based on experience) – Increase to £40,000 per annum once studies completed

We work either as a sub-contractor to Tier 1 builders or as principal contractor, and it is integral to the role that you maintain our high health and safety standards whilst achieving the most from your managed sites.
Howard Civil Engineering are currently looking for a dynamic, proactive and competent Project Manager to work on new projects within West Yorkshire. We expect at least 5 years in a similar role, working within the civil engineering sector with a strong background in groundworks & civil engineering. A progressive career is beneficial with a proven track record of improvement & progression.
Role Overview
- To be responsible for all health & safety matters on-site
- Must be able to manage, control and coordinate all site operations for labour and sub-contractors
- Daily safe starts must be conducted each morning before work commences to ensure everyone is aware of what is required for the day
- Ensure all RAMS are prepared in advance and communicate this to all operatives
- Ensure permits are in place prior to commencing activities on-site
- Regular monitoring of the workforce on-site
- Daily plant checks and ensure PUWER and LOLER documentation is complete
- HAVS to be kept up to date
- Log and inform SHEQ Manager of any accidents, near misses or service strikes
- Deliver a quality product, on time, on budget and safely
- Always implement the HCE quality management system
- Maintain and update build records
- Provide clear direction, support, and motivation to members of your team
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment
- Establish and maintain effective communication with clients and project stakeholders
- Provide regular project updates, address client concerns, and manage expectations

Role Requirements
- At least 5 years in a similar role with a proven record of development (Operative, foreman, supervisor)
- Degree qualified is preferable
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and construction methodologies
- Proficient in project management software and tools
- Excellent leadership, communication, and people skills
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills
- In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance standards
- In date SMSTS
- Groundworker/plant operator background is desirable

Howard Plant Hire, a division of Howard Civil Engineering, is currently seeking an experienced heavy goods vehicle technician in response to an increased workload. The right candidate will be workshop-based with some requirements for callouts as required.
Role Overview
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication of components.
- Inspect and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems for faults and failures.
- Conduct repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and other components.
- Ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and maintenance schedules.
- Utilize diagnostic equipment and tools to identify issues with HGVs.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems, including wiring, lighting, and electronic controls.
- Interpret diagnostic codes and repair manuals to rectify problems efficiently.
- Repair or replace faulty parts, ensuring proper installation and functionality.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe working practices.
- Perform safety inspections and assessments on HGVs to identify potential hazards or compliance issues.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including parts used and hours worked.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements, including vehicle roadworthiness and emissions standards.
Requirements
- At least 5 year’s experience in a similar role
- Stay updated on industry developments, technological advancements, and regulatory changes related to HGV maintenance and repair
- Competent with MOTs, repairs and maintenance of commercial vehicles, including HGV’s (Class 1 & 2)
- Experience with DAF vehicles is beneficial
- NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance is preferred
- Clean Driving License
- Organised and familiar with vehicle paperwork
- Safety conscious with awareness of hazards in the workplace

Howard Civil Engineering is currently looking for a proactive, hardworking, and experienced Quantity Surveyor to be based in our head office in Seacroft, Leeds. Howard’s current projects range from groundworks, S278 & infrastructure works, roads and sewers, and reinforced concrete works.

Role Overview
- Establish a Commercial Calendar of all relevant dates such as submission dates for project valuations, payment dates, retention dates, and project completion dates.
- Establish accurate interim value (what we are truly entitled to because of the work completed) based on awareness of our scope, lots of site visits and constant communication.
- External applications submitted on time, accurately, and robustly substantiated.
- Report & upload onto Microsoft Forms with the Valuation and final date for payment, and accurate MOS value whether it is paid by the client or not.
- Reports uploaded onto Microsoft forms of project performance, which are compiled jointly by the PM and QS.
- Upon awareness of the suggestion (either verbally or by a PN) that an underpayment may be forthcoming, this must be highlighted to the directors. It is essential that we challenge and reinforce our position, more so when we have already fully corroborated our entitlement.
- Change Management – this is the single biggest task we must be alive to and constantly in touch with. It is the biggest thing that will impact value and entitlement, and we must use the tools, trackers, our colleagues, and initiative to ensure we are aware of our entitlement.
- Once completed, valuations cannot be resubmitted, edited, or updated, so it is essential we spend the time and effort necessary to ensure they are accurate and reflect all work we have undertaken, including additional or changing scope.
Role Requirements
- A background in Civil Engineering/Groundworks
- Strong communication both written and verbal
- Developing client relationships
- At least 5 years experience as a Quantity Surveyor within Civils
- Contract knowledge/awareness would be beneficial
