To continue the successful partnership HCE have experienced with Bam, they have been awarded the contract for the groundworks at Birley and Parkwood Fire Stations in Sheffield. Work commences in September and October 2014 accordingly and will run until April 2015. The contract value will be in the region of £1million.
To meet customer requirements and highlight the increased skill base and product diversification through Howards, we are pleased to announce the formation of a Surfacing Division. The focus for the Surfacing will be to support Howard Civil Engineering on projects using our in-house labour and plant.
Reflecting the continued growth of Howard Civil Engineering over the past 10 years, further investment has been made in a number of apprentices across the business. An apprentice has been deployed in Health and Safety, Procurement and in our Commercial Team bringing the total number of apprentices employed by HCE to 15, which equates to almost 10% of the HCE workforce.
Following the success of the A19 project which represented the first project for the Highways Agency, HCE have managed to secure the road widening works on the 20km stretch of the A1 between Leeming and Barton. Working for the Carillion/Morgan Sindall JV the initial stage of the project is worth £1.5m, but could well exceed £3m on completion.
As part of the Company’s growth Strategy one key objective was to identify and secure traditional Civils projects. A key driver of this was the government’s announcement it was to spend over £18billion over the next 10 years. The widening of the Wolviston junction on the A19 represents the first project HCE have secured for the Highways Agency, under Interserve, the principal contractor. The project involved all drainage and surfacing and traffic management of a live junction and the works will take 15 weeks starting in March 2014.
Earlier this month HCE were successful in securing Achilles Accreditation. This latest accreditation will help HCE increase their client base as it is recognised across the industry and will enable HCE to further enhance its database of clients.
