Gateway 36 Newsletter No 20

09 December 2021

Gateway 36 Newsletter No 20 Week commencing Monday 6th December. First published Friday 3rd December.

Welcome to the Gateway 36 e-newsletter. Each month, these e-newsletters will provide you with updates on progress, traffic management and any potential disruption surrounding the Gateway 36 development in Rockingham.

Progress, the past four weeks

Over the past four weeks, all tarmac surfacing, white lining, block paving, flagging, and plum slate works to the new roundabout on Dearne Valley Parkway have been completed.

The road restraint barrier around the roundabout and the access road leading into the third phase of the Gateway 36 development is also complete. On this access road, we have continued the installation of kerbs and the formation of footpaths in preparation for tarmacking.

Topsoiling work has also commenced on both sides of the roundabout in preparation for grass seeding.

On the S38 access road into the second phase of the Gateway 36 development, drainage works have recommenced from the entrance of the site which is already tarmacked up to the top of the site.

We have also commenced the movement of the 120,000m³ surcharge mound on the third phase of the development. This will enable us to cover the remaining footprint on site in order to compact the ground and induce any settlement.

The next four weeks

Over the next four weeks, traffic management will switch to enable us to reinstate any damaged kerbs and complete any outstanding items before fully reopening Dearne Valley Parkway. During this period, all traffic will be swapped over to the inside lane and along the inside of the roundabout. Please follow signs and speed limited in place for everyone's safety.

Should you experience or witness an out-of-hours emergency regarding the traffic management measures in place, please call RTS on 01724 848 246.

Around the roundabout, the remaining traffic signs and bollards will be installed and illuminated, and hydro-seeders will spray the grass seeds over all verges and embankments. The existing highway ditch which runs alongside Dearne Valley Parkway will also be cleaned out to aid the drainage of surface water.

Work will continue on the access road from the new roundabout to the third phase of the development, including the installation of kerbing and stone in preparation for tarmac.

On the third phase of the development, we will complete the movement of 120,000m³ material which will then be left in place for several months to settle the ground beneath.

On the second phase of the development, we will recommence earthworks with the movement of 50,000m³ of topsoil to the location of the Next warehouse to settle the ground beneath prior to the commencement of building construction.
