Newsletter No 3. Week commencing Monday 10th June. Weeks 6 and 7.

(First published Friday 7th June)

Welcome to your third newsletter providing you with information regarding the Hard Ings Road Improvement scheme in Keighley.
Every fortnight these newsletters will provide you with an update on how the works are progressing and also anything we think you might find interesting to do with the scheme.Work this past 2 weeks

Work this past 2 weeks

During these past 2 weeks we have created a strong stone platform within the allotment area in preparation for a piling rig to come to site next week. We have also been taking down the stone walls.

We have been preparing the Fibreline area, stripping topsoil and commencing the breaking up of stone walls, also preparing for the piling rig next week.

At the Bradford Road Roundabout end we have continued with surface water drainage pipe installation.

This has been slower than anticipated due to finding a thick layer of grout (concrete) beneath the existing

road that we were not expecting.

Those of you passing through the area will have seen the temporary traffic management now in place to provide us with safe working zones to carry out the widening works.
Lawkholme Lane is now closed.
A temporary pedestrian crossing point has been installed near the Texaco garages.
As expected, at rush hour congestion has increased at the 2 roundabouts but outside these times, traffic is flowing well.

Work for the next 2 weeks

Next week we will be continuing with the drainage work near Bradford Road Roundabout.
We will be commencing the sheet piled retaining walls in the allotment and Fibreline areas.
We will be commencing works within Beechcliffe Road Roundabout, removing the tree stumps in advance of installing new drainage within the roundabout.

Sheet piling in the Fibreline and allotment areas - Potential disruption and noise

On Wednesday 12th a large piling rig and large excavator and crane will be delivered to site. Please bear with us if you are held up on Hard Ings Road for a few minutes during the day as the large delivery of equipment is manoeuvred off Hard Ings Road, onto the allotment and Fibreline areas.
The piling rig will be present on site for the next 3 weeks installing sheet piles which will act as a retaining wall for the widened carriageway in these areas where the ground level drops away.
2 methods of installation of the sheet piles will be used.
A percussive (banging, potentially noisy) method within the allotment area which carries out the work as fast as possible (approximately 3-4 days) .
A quieter (but very much slower) method adjacent to the Fibreline building to protect the factory against vibration as we are piling very close to the building ( approximately 10 days).
Please bear with us during the 3 - 4 day noisier operation. It is the only piling we will be carrying out as part of the road improvement works.
Vibration monitoring will be carried out during piling operations to ensure we keep within acceptable limits.

Additional traffic management to be installed at Beechcliffe Road Roundabout

As part of the works, Beechcliffe Road roundabout will gain an additional traffic lane around it. The central roundabout area will shrink in size to accommodate this.

In order to safely carry out these works further temporary traffic management will be installed to close off a lane part way around the roundabout.
The traffic management for the scheme has been phased to prevent large impacts to congestion that may have occurred if it had all been installed at once.

Again, in our experience when a temporary traffic management system is installed a large amount of traffic congestion is experienced during the first few days. After this congestion tends to calm down again. Please bear with us during this period.

This will not affect how you use the roundabout.
