Greengates Junction

Greengates Junction Newsletter No 17

19 March 2021

Newsletter No 17. Week Commencing Monday 22nd March. First published Friday 19th March 2021.

This newsletter is to provide you with an update on the Greengates Junction Improvement works.

Please note traffic management measures remain in place at Greengates junction to enable us to work on all four arms of the junction. Please plan your journey accordingly if you are passing through the junction.

Additionally, we are aware that a small number of road users are making dangerous manoeuvres around the traffic management measures which jeopardise the safety of others. Should you witness any dangerous or illegal manoeuvres, please report these directly to West Yorkshire Police.

**As the COVID-19 restrictions in place across the country gradually ease, we are expecting to see an increase in the number of vehicles passing through the junction. We kindly ask road users and pedestrians to continue practicing social distancing around the site and being considerate of other drivers when passing the temporary traffic management measures.**

Howard Civil Engineering and Bradford Council would like to thank those who are driving safely through the junction. Your continued patience and understanding as we undertake improvement works are greatly appreciated.

Progress, the past two weeks

We are pleased to say that we have now completed the diversion of the water main along New Line near New Line Retail Park, with the works focussed on the new Eastern connection and services to properties. We have also commenced work to demolish the end unit (previously a fast-food restaurant) to create additional parking and facilitate the relocation of the bin store.

In the Farmfoods car park, paving and soft landscaping works have continued which we expect to complete in the coming weeks.

Further up New Line we have been continuing to install the road crossings and connections of ducting for the high-voltage and low-voltage power cable diversions close to Asda.

On Harrogate Road, we have also commenced the diversion of Virgin Media apparatus in the area outside Costa and KFC.

Finally, we are pleased to say that we have been able to restart works to the P-Loop area, including the installation of filter drains and the reformation of the road.

The next two weeks

Please note will be starting works tomorrow (Saturday 20th March) to install the Yorkshire Water valve on New Line opposite the entrance to New Line Retail Park. These weekend works are intended to advance these necessary works and minimise the period of disruption in this area during the working week.

During normal working hours, we will be continuing the demolition of the end unit and the relocation of the bin store at New Line Retail Park.

Further up New Line, we will continue the road crossings and the connection of ducting opposite Asda.

We will continue to form the new road in the P-Loop area with the goal of surfacing the road as soon as possible.

We also expect the paving and soft landscaping in the Farmfoods car park to be completed within the next two weeks.

Traffic Management

Please note current traffic management measures along Harrogate Road have been relocated closer to the arm of the junction to close off the existing Farmfoods entrance while we undertake removal works on this corner. Roads have been reduced to two lanes in all directions to enable us to progress with ongoing junction widening works. We anticipate that these traffic management measures will be in place for the foreseeable future. Please allow extra time for travel when passing through the junction.

Howard Civil Engineering have worked alongside Bradford Council to ascertain the most efficient traffic management measures to enable us to complete the junction improvement works with the highest consideration for safety of our operatives, road users and pedestrians. We apologise in advance for any disruption and delays which you may encounter as a result of these works and thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
