Greengates Junction Newsletter No 16

05 March 2021

Newsletter No 16. Week Commencing Monday 8th March. First published Friday 5th March 2021.

This newsletter is to provide you with an update on the Greengates Junction Improvement works.

Please note traffic management measures remain in place at Greengates junction to enable us to work on all four arms of the junction. Please plan your journey accordingly if you are passing through the junction.

Additionally, we are aware that a small number of road users are making dangerous manoeuvres around the traffic management measures which jeopardise the safety of others. Should you witness any dangerous or illegal manoeuvres, please report these directly to West Yorkshire Police.

Howard Civil Engineering and Bradford Council would like to thank those who are driving safely through the junction. Your continued patience and understanding as we undertake improvement works are greatly appreciated.

Progress, the past two weeks

We have continued to divert the water main along New Line over the past two weeks, with the works now advancing into the Farmfoods area. We have also made a start on the paving and hard landscaping within the Farmfoods car park - a clear outline of how this will look upon completion is now visible.

Further down New Line, we are pleased to say we have completed the required adaptations to the New Line retail park and have increased the capacity of the car park.

We have completed the installation of urban traffic control traffic signal ducts and Northern Powergrid ducts across the road into the new footway outside KFC.

Work to form the new road in the P-Loop area has continued, which now due to the ongoing inclement weather requires remedial works to remove saturated materials. We have ceased the installation of kerbing due to a shortage of materials owing to a decrease in the production of concrete-based materials during the COVID-19 pandemic. Every effort is being made to overcome and work towards the installation of the tarmac surfacing.

The next two weeks

Over the next two weeks, we will continue to divert the water main to the south section of New Line near the New Line Retail Park. These works will concentrate on the new eastern connection and services to properties.

We will also continue the ongoing paving and landscaping works within the Farmfoods car park.

Across the road, we will continue the crossing and connecting of ductings for high-voltage and low-voltage power cable diversions leading from Costa to Farmfoods.

At New Line retail park, we will demolish the end unit (previously a fast food restaurant) to create additional parking and facilitate the relocation of the bin store.

We will commence the diversion of Virgin Media apparatus in the area outside Costa and KFC.

We are also looking forward to continuing the road crossings and connections of ducting for the high-voltage and low-voltage power cable diversions on New Line, close to Asda.

Once we have obtained the relevant materials, we will continue the formation of the new road in the P-Loop area.

Traffic Management

Please note current traffic management measures along Harrogate Road have been relocated closer to the arm of the junction to close off the existing Farmfoods entrance while we undertake removal works on this corner. Roads have been reduced to two lanes in all directions to enable us to progress with ongoing junction widening works. We anticipate that these traffic management measures will be in place for the foreseeable future. Please allow extra time for travel when passing through the junction.

Howard Civil Engineering have worked alongside Bradford Council to ascertain the most efficient traffic management measures to enable us to complete the junction improvement works with the highest consideration for safety of our operatives, road users and pedestrians. We apologise in advance for any disruption and delays which you may encounter as a result of these works and thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
