Gateway 36 Newsletter No 15

23 July 2021

Gateway 36 Newsletter No 15 Week commencing Monday 26th July. First published Friday 23rd July.

Welcome to the Gateway 36 e-newsletter. Each fortnight, these e-newsletters will provide you with updates on progress, traffic management and any potential disruption surrounding the Gateway 36 development in Rockingham. Please note these works will be ongoing until late Summer 2021.

Progress, the past two weeks

We have continued to form the new S278 roundabout along the western side of Dearne Valley Parkway which will facilitate entry to Phase 3 of the Gateway 36 scheme. Traffic management measures to close lanes remain in place in this area.

Tarmac surfacing has now been laid on both the footpaths and the new carriageway, with only the wearing course to be laid at a later date in advance of the roundabout being opened.

Third party utility diversions are also underway, however we are experiencing setbacks on the third phase of works due to complications with third party works.

We are pleased to say that we have now completed earthworks on the second phase of the development. Recent work has included the development of plateau levels and the construction of a large, reinforced earth embankment around the highest development plateau.

We have also continued additional earthworks on the third phase of the development.

The next two weeks

Over the next two weeks, work to form the new S278 roundabout will continue on both sides of Dearne Valley Parkway as we prepare for the completion of service diversions and tarmac surfacing in the coming weeks. This will be followed by the installation of street lighting columns, road signage, and temporary white lining.

Once the works described above are complete, traffic will then switch over to the new formed route whilst we continue work on the central section to form the new roundabout on Dearne Valley Parkway.

Earthworks on both phases of the development will continue, but we will be nearing completion on the second phase of the development.

The current traffic management layout will stay in place whilst work to construct the new roundabout is ongoing.

Should you experience or witness an out-of-hours emergency regarding the traffic management measures in place, please call RTS on 01724 848 246.

All works are scheduled to be complete for late summer 2021.

We are pleased to say that throughout the month of June, Howard Civil engineering offset 189.64mt CO2e on this site - achieving CCB Gold! This mitigates the use of 74,486 litres of Gasoil for the same period. This has been compensated for by investing in both the Katingan Peatland Reforestation and Conservation Project and the 86 MW Hydro Project in Himachal Pradesh.
