Barlby Roundabout Newsletter 10

24 January 2017

Weeks 19 & 20 commencing 23rd January 2017

This is the tenth edition of the newsletter that will keep you up to date with the progress of the roundabout construction on the existing A19/A163 Market Weighton Road junction and also changes to the existing York Road junction.

Those of you that drive through the site on a regular basis will have seen big changes this past couple of weeks.

We have completed the surfacing of the 'offline' sections of the roundabout and the traffic has now been diverted onto the roundabout running lanes. We were pleased to complete the surfacing works in 3 days, just before the latest spell of cold weather hit us.

The use of traffic lights will now only be required occasionally as we complete the remaining works.

During the next 2 weeks we will be completing the kerbs to the boundary of the new roundabout and traffic islands. Drainage and street lighting ducting to the roundabout and the west of the A19 will also be carried out.

New Road Layout

Please be mindful about the new temporary road layout. The signs and cones will direct you into the correct running lane.

Please be aware that the temporary road layout will be regularly adjusted over the coming weeks to enable our workforce to work safely in different areas of the works.

We would like to advise vehicles to slow down when approaching the ramps onto and off the new areas of surfacing as directed by the signs.

When in operation the temporary traffic lights will be working daily between 9.30 am and 4pm. The A19 and Market Weighton Road will be returned to full lane running outside these times.

The A19 and Market Weighton Road and York Road will remain fully open during this period. Please allow extra time within your journey to allow for some disruption due to the temporary traffic lights during the hours noted above.

Please also be mindful of the temporary enforceable reduction in the speed limit of 60 mph to 40 mph to protect our workforce.

Safety for children and the wider public

Whilst there are no public footpaths adjacent to the works we acknowledge that construction sites can be attractive places for children.

Please be assured that all hazardous areas of works will be securely fenced at all times to ensure the safety of the public. Our compound will be entirely fenced off with gates allowing access to site personnel and deliveries of plant and materials only.

Site personnel and deliveries will access our compound from the existing farmer's access off Market Weighton Road. Please be aware of deliveries using this entrance on occasion.
