Barlby Roundabout Newsletter 08

16 December 2016

Weeks 14, 15 & 16 commencing 19th December 2016

This is the eighth edition of the newsletter that will keep you up to date with the progress of the roundabout construction on the existing A19/A163 Market Weighton Road junction and also changes to the existing York Road junction. Works on site will cease between Christmas and the New Year, therefore this newsletter also covers the first week in January.

The drainage and gully pot installation to the east of the A19 is now substantially complete. The street lighting ducts and chambers and BT ducts are also finished. Our street lighting subcontractor has commenced erecting the new street lighting columns which will be lit before Christmas. The YW water main diversion works will be completed Monday 19th December.

The week before Christmas will see us completing the kerbs to the east of the A19 and generally trimming the carriageways for surfacing in the New Year. BT Openreach are also expected on site to complete the BT cable diversion.

We return to site on Tuesday 3rd January when final preparation for the surfacing works will take place.

Ongoing temporary traffic lights on the A19 and Market Weighton Road

The temporary 3 way traffic lights system will continue to be in operation week commencing 19th December but will not be in operation between Christmas and New Year, until we return to site on Tuesday 3rd January. The lights are required to ensure the safety of our workers where they have to work immediately alongside the A19. We apologize for the delays that some of you will be experiencing.

When in operation the temporary traffic lights will be working daily between 9.30 am and 4pm. The A19 and Market Weighton Road will be returned to full lane running outside these times.

The A19 and Market Weighton Road will remain fully open during this period. Please allow extra time within your journey to allow for some disruption due to the temporary traffic lights during the hours noted above.

Please also be mindful of the temporary enforceable reduction in the speed limit of 60 mph to 40 mph to protect our workforce.

Christmas shutdown Friday 23rd December – Tuesday 3rd January

The site will be shut down between Christmas and the New Year although visits will be made daily by one of our employees over the Christmas break to make safety and security checks.

In the event that you wish to report anything regarding the traffic signage and cones or the site in general please make contact with our Project Manager Tom Barrett on 07734915598. Please leave him a message if he does not pick up immediately.

Safety for children and the wider public

Whilst there are no public footpaths adjacent to the works we acknowledge that construction sites can be attractive places for children.
Please be assured that once underway hazardous areas of works will be securely fenced at all times to ensure the safety of the public. Our compound will be entirely fenced off with gates allowing access to site personnel and deliveries of plant and materials only.

Site personnel and deliveries will access our compound from the existing farmer's access off Market Weighton Road. Please be aware of deliveries using this entrance on occasion.
